Discovery Tools Futures

Resource Discovery tools to watch:
  • Most ILSes have a "catalog" function, some of these might be able to be used seperately from the ILS, some not. The ILS Futures page has links to those tools.
  • Mango/Solr/Lucene: FCLA is investigating the possibility of replacing Endeca with open source repository and indexing software.
  • Blacklight. Research project by University of Virginia, using Ruby on Rails, SOLR and Lucene.
  • VuFind. Developed by Villanova, using SOLR/Lucene.

  • XC. eXtensible Catalog Project, the XC Project Team at the University of Rochester, together with XC Partner Institutions, will develop the XC software, a set of open-source applications to provide libraries with an alternative way to reveal their collections to library users. The website is the main vehicle for distributing the open-source software once it is released in 2009.

  • Serials Solutions Summon: in development. Discovery tool as service.
  • SOLRpac Beta project at Miami Univ. in Ohio, open source. Using Drupal and solr/lucene.
